Anemia is a health condition which happens as a result of hemoglobin or red blood cells deficiency and usually manifests through bodily weakness and unusual paleness. The condition is quite common across the globe and everyone suffering from it should act in due time and reverse the condition before it causes bigger health concerns.
What causes anemia?
There are a number of factors that contribute to the development of this disease and they depend on the type of anemia we’re facing. The Mayo Clinic says that the most common type of anemia, iron-deficiency, is caused, as the name suggest, by lack of iron in the body. Our body needs iron to create enough hemoglobin for the erythrocytes.

Iron deficiency can happen as a result of pregnancy, heavy menstrual bleeding, cancer, ulcers and some over-the-counter pain killers.
The next most common factor that leads to anemia is a vitamin deficiency, typically B12 or cobalamin deficiency. Many studies show that cobalamin is an essential vitamin in the production of healthy erythrocytes and the lack of it can influence the production of red blood cells.
Anemia is most common in elderly people, with more than 20% of anemics being age 85 and older. The WHO says that preschool children are among the most affected as well, then pregnant women and women in general. Men are the category least affected by this condition. School age children are somewhere in between.
Anemia – Signs and Symptoms
There are a number of signs and symptoms associated with the condition, including chronic fatigue, paleness, weakness, shortness of breath, headaches, brittle nails, unusual cravings, dizziness, irregular heartbeat, tingling sensation in the legs, cold feet and hands and so on. The American Society of Hematology points out that the symptoms of the disease can be hardly noticeably during the early stages so a routine blood test is advised to determine the condition with certainty.
Natural Remedies
There are a number of conventional treatments for anemia but there are also some very effective natural remedies. Spinach is highly recommended to anemics thanks to the abundance of iron, folly acids and vitamin B12 in this leafy veggie.  Just half a cup of spinach can satisfy 35% of the recommended daily intake of iron and 33% of the folic acid amounts. You can easily prepare spinach soup and take advantage of this veggie’s health benefits.
Pulverize a cup of blanched spinach with some water. In a small pan heat up some olive oil, add some chopped garlic and onion and cook them until they’re caramelized and become bright brown. Add the spinach, a pinch of salt and cook it on medium heat for ten minutes. Your spinach soup is ready.
Apple and beetroot juice are another excellent remedy for anemia. Apples are abundant in iron and contain a number of other healthy nutrients. Beets are rich in folic acid, potassium and fiber, all of the nutrients mostly present in the peel. If you mix the two, you’ll get a powerful anti-anemia natural remedy. Just mix some fresh apple juice and beet juice and add some honey. Refreshing and super healthy at the same time!
Anemia may not be such a sever condition on its own but if it’s not treated properly and in time it may lead to a number of serious health issues.
