Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of premature death today, although some of them already are being treated, or at least will stabilize the situation. Medicines sometimes can help for almost a normal life, but some restrictions are a necessity. Of course, it is best to take care of your health before you even have to take those meds.
More than anything, human heart loves movement and in that manner walking 30 minutes every day will ensure good conditions for maintaining a healthy heart tonus. Even after a heart attack, doctors recommend their patients to take short walks two times a day.
Our hearts are strongly influenced of taking proper nutrition. Vegetable fats are the main source of unsaturated fatty acids that maintain the level of cholesterol in the normal range. That means you should incorporate more organic vegetables and fruits in your daily meals.
Our hearts don’t like our bodies being overweight. It is believed that, if a person throughout his whole life maintained his weight, will have the same body weight in his old age as when he was 25 years old (of course if he didn’t suffered in his childhood from obesity or excessive weakness).
If you are a smoker, stop smoking, and the stress and strain on your heart will decrease. If you are unable to get rid of this bad habit, at least try to reduce the number of cigarettes smoked per day.
Our hearts love when we are relaxed. Bad mood and aggression are destructive emotions not only for others but also for you as well. Of course, it is impossible to guard yourself against all kinds of stress, but we can learn to respond correctly to control these conditions. The alcohol is not a good assistant when you have tension; contrariwise it even reinforces negative factors after a short period of time.
Our hearts, in order to function properly, need adequate amounts of:
- Potassium
Potassium plays a key role in elimination of body fluids which are not in normal levels and for the proper operation of cardiac muscle. Large amounts of potassium are contained in beans, soy, peas, apricots, prunes, peaches, black tea and cocoa.
Magnesium
Magnesium has vasodilating and diuretic effect. The main sources of magnesium are: peas, oats, watermelon, almonds, hazelnuts, sea kale, black tea and coffee.
- Iodine
Iodine has a beneficial effect on metabolism (it’s especially significant in atherosclerosis). The richest foods in iodine are: fish, squid, sea cabbage, eggs, milk, beets, lettuce, potatoes, cabbage, cucumbers and plums.
- Vitamin C
Vitamin C strengthens blood vessels and one of the best sources of this vitamin are red peppers, apples, lemons, fennel, rose hips and black currants.
- Vitamin P
Vitamin P strengthens all small and tiny blood vessels and makes them more elastic. It is mostly found in cherries, black currants, tea, peas, oranges, lemons, rosehips, raspberries and strawberries.
