Do you know what hydroponics is? This is a process of growing of plants in water indoors that is employed by many greenhouses around the world.
The good thing is that hydroponics can be used for small-scale operations at home, and can give life to different herbs all year round.
Here’s a step-by-step guide for a small hydroponic garden:
1. Take a 6-inch herb (whatever you like), and remove most of the leaves from the bottom. If you leave them, they may rot after a while in the water and ruin the process.
Additionally, you can buy your herb or plant and cut the bottom off so it can absorb water better.
2. Pour fresh water in a glass jar – you can use tap or rain water, but not distilled water as it doesn’t have all the nutrients the young plant needs. Use a bigger jar to allow the plant to grow.
3. Change the water often (once a week at least) until you see the plant sprouting. After the sprouts emerge, stop changing the water.
4. Besides the water, the plant will need a lot of sunlight to grow. In order to succeed, we suggest putting the jar on the windowsill if you can.
5. As the plant or herb and its leaves grow, clip the leaves, but leave the herbs to develop in the water.
The clipping will encourage better growth and will supply you with fresh herbs for months to come.

What herbs are best for indoor growing?

Although you can try growing almost anything, we suggest rosemary, stevia, sage, oregano, thyme, lemon balm, tarragon, basil, spearmint and peppermint.

They are easier to grow indoors than others, and will grow better. Try growing your own hydroponic garden and share the results with us.
